For individuals who wish to visit the UK for general, business, special or medical purposes.  

This category is for Visa nationals (i.e. people who require a visa) who want to visit the United Kingdom for a general visit. To come to the United Kingdom as a general visitor, individuals must be able to show that they:

• Only want to visit the United Kingdom for up to six months;
• Plan to leave the United Kingdom at the end of their visit;
• Have enough money to support and accommodate themselves without working or help from public funds, or that they will be supported and accommodated by relatives or friends;
• Do not intend to charge members of the public for services provided or goods received;
• Do not intend to study;
• Can meet the cost of the return or onward journey;
• Do not intend to carry out business, sport or entertainer visitor activities;
• do not intend to marry or form a civil partnership or give notice of marriage or civil partnership;
• Do not intend to receive private medical treatment during their visit , and
• Are not in transit to a country outside the Common Travel Area (i.e. UK, Ireland, Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man).

Business and Special Visitors

This category is for Visa nationals who wish to come to the United Kingdom for a business visit of up to six months. To come to the United Kingdom as a business visitor, individuals must be able to show that they:

• Only want to visit the United Kingdom for up to six months;
• Plan to leave the United Kingdom at the end of their visit;
• Have enough money to support and accommodate themselves without working,  help from public funds or they will be supported and accommodated by relatives or friends;
• Do not intend to charge members of the public for services provided or goods received;
• Do not intend to study;
• Can meet the cost of the return or onward journey;
• Are based abroad and have no intention of transferring their base to the United Kingdom even temporarily;
• Rreceive their salary from abroad.

Private Medical Treatment

This category is for individuals who wish to come to the United Kingdom for private medical treatment. To come to the United Kingdom for medical treatment individuals must be able to show that:

• They meet the requirements for leave to enter as a visitor;
• If suffering from a communicable disease there is no danger to public health;
• Their course of treatment is for a limited period of time;
• They have made satisfactory arrangements for the consultation or treatment they need;
• They have enough money to pay for any treatment and to support and accommodate themselves without working or help from public funds; and
• They plan to leave the United Kingdom at the end of their treatment
